Arlo is a male WindObelisk Dragon who runs the Arlos's Ancient Artifacts stand. He is a member of the Dragonhome Preservation Guild, and is creating several digsites all around Sornieth to answer questions about the realm's past.
Within Arlo's Ancient Artifacts, players are able to muster resources and use them to dig in designated sites and plots to find precious artifacts. Once per day a user will be able to Muster Resources and collect a random assortment of tools - pickaxes, magnifying glasses, and research notes. The player will receive a minimum of 2 pickaxes and 2 magnifying glasses, with an additional 4-8 more of either tool, each having a 50% chance. A few of the possible results of a Muster could be 2 pickaxes and 6 magnifying glasses, 6 pickaxes and 6 magnifying glasses, or even 10 pickaxes and 2 magnifying glasses. Research notes simply have a range of 2-5.[1] Once these resources are obtained, the player can select a Digsite Contract to begin working on. Which contracts are available to the player is determined by their archaeology experience.
Within a digsite, the player will be shown an assortment of different sized plots, all of which have a number of dirt tiles to be uncovered. In order to yield an artifact reward, all of the tiles within a plot must be uncovered. Uncovering tiles is made possible by the resources that have been mustered, and any research that has been shared with the player by their friends.
There are two types of digging actions ("work orders") that can be performed with the tools collected using Muster Resources:
Rugged Work: Performing this action will consume one pickaxe from the available resources and will begin a work order on multiple random tiles, selected from any available plots. This process takes 15 minutes to complete.
Precise Work: Performing this action will consume one (1) magnifying glass from the available resources and will allow the player to specifically choose a plot within the current digsite to work on. One (1) random tile in the plot will be worked. This process takes 10 minutes to complete.
Additionally, players can share their accumulated research notes with others in a variety of ways. Players can choose to send notes to players on their friends list in one of two ways: they can select one specific player on their list to send up to three (3) notes to, or send up to three (3) notes to random active players on their friends list. Alternately, players with eight (8) notes collected can choose to donate them to the Dragonhome Preservation Guild. This does not aid any other players, but the donating player is rewarded with one (1) digsite tool - either a pickaxe or magnifying glass - in return for the notes.
Once a plot is completely excavated, the player has to manually claim the item. Once claimed, the plot resets automatically and can be re-dug out to obtain the reward again. Rewards must be claimed before continuing to dig.
Prior to March 9th, 2022, when mustering, every player received 7-11 random resources, each having a 50% chance of being either a pickaxe or a magnifying glass. This was changed to 2 pickaxes, 2 magnifying glasses, and a random assortment of 4-8 additional resources (again using a 50/50 split for pickaxes/magnifying glasses). The amount of research notes obtained (2-5) remained unchanged. [4]
The second digsite, Ancient Aerie, was released on May 21st, 2022.[5]
The third digsite, Deepsea Dive, was released on November 12th, 2022.[6]
The fourth digsite, Frozen Age, was released on November 15th, 2023.[7]
Trivia[]
Arlo appears to have the primary gene Tiger. The secondary gene is potentially Blend.
Arlo is described as "brown, green, and goldenrod". Like many Trading Post NPCs, the colors used don't seem to exactly match possible player dragons' colors. Taupe Tiger, Peacock Blend, and Beige Stained seem to be close.
