Courier dragons are dragons who travel between territories delivering items and messages, including the ones that reach players' inboxes. Like Snappers, they're worldly, flying archives of knowledge, and the couriers freely share this wisdom with new players via tutorial modals. Edgar, Pearl, and Spitfire are the three named couriers who appear onsite in various places. The three know each other, and Edgar, at least, considers them friends.[1]

Each courier dragon has the eye color and powers of the territory in which they were born, but as a species they are not acknowledged as members of the eleven flights, nor do they owe allegiance to any flight. As such, one will not see the courier species as an obtainable species in-game, though one will still see them frequently referenced around the site.[2]

Courier dragons are neutral non-combatants, and have free passage through the eleven territories since they provide an essential service between the flights. No flight sanctions the harm of a courier, though it's not infrequent for clans to attempt to steal the cargo of a courier if they suspect it to be of importance to their enemies. Couriers regard the safe delivery of their cargo as a matter of the utmost importance and personal honor.[3]

Trivia[]

  • Edgar and Spitfire both have yellow eyes, implying that they may have been born in Light Flight's territory. Pearl's eyes are a light purple color, suggesting a Shadow birthplace.
    • However, Pearl is confirmed to be from an Ice clan.[4] The purple eye color in the image of her holding a gem is likely an error. It is the only image of her with her eyes open and her eyelids are the same purple color.
    • Edgar has very prominent orange rings around the yellow portion of his eyes. Similarly, Spitfire has red around the yellow area of his eyes. It is possible that the yellow portions are their irises and the orange/red portions are their scleras.
  • The image of Pearl on the gem purchase page, in which she is only slightly larger than a gem, raises some questions about the size of courier dragons, and the size of gems.
    • There "may be some tundra blood in her lineage. However, like all dragon nests of mixed parentage, the offspring will take on one or the other of their parent's species rather than a hybrid result. Pearl [is] not a tundra. She is a courier dragon, which are their own breed."
  • Edgar, Spitfire, and Pearl previously delivered a message for every purchased item from the Auction House, and a message for every expired auction. With the Auction House revamp, these messages are no longer sent out to clog up players' inboxes. Expired auction messages are now alerts and Auction House items go directly into the buyer's inventory.
Naomi

Naomi

  • In late January of 2016, a glitch occurred that caused the images and names of the couriers to be replaced with a female Fae named "Naomi".[5][6] The mystery of who or what Naomi was intrigued many players, and some even crafted fake achievements and stories about her; to this day, her offspring are coveted by many.
  • Edgar is the point-of-view character in the lore story, A New Direction. In it, he gets stuck in the Windswept Plateau when the Twisting Crescendo vanishes.
  • There is a Hibernal Den task called "Food for Couriers" in which a player must turn in 15 Desert Scrubs and 15 Reverse Silkworm Moths, which apparently confirms that couriers eat at least plants and insects.
  • According to Aequorin, "While the elemental flights are incredibly important to the overall lore and gameplay for Flight Rising, there are many, many dragons that may have "hatched into" their origin element, but have since eschewed banners and exercise no allegience. While not uncommon, how these free agent dragons are regarded differs from clan-to-clan. The couriers were likely some of the first to strike out on their own, and did so en masse!"
