Rejected breed art

Swiftwing Dragons are a reject breed concept from Flight Rising. The main reason for it not becoming a real breed as is, was that it only had wings and legs. The admins have stated that they want the dragon breeds on site to have two arms, two legs, and two wings for apparel purposes:

At this time we have no plans to change the 2 arm, 2 leg, 2 wing format of our dragons, though we wont’ say “never”; however, we have a plethora of ideas that do not break this format and are thus ideally suited for the apparel and abilities currently present in-game.

Though it is not an available nor planned breed, the Swiftwing's design was later modified and updated to become what is now the Pearlcatcher breed. Shared features include a tuft of fur at the end of the tail, a mane starting at the forehead and running down the neck, and long pointed ears.

Eventually, the site did release a dragon breed with a body plan similar to the Swiftwings, in the form of the Banescale breed. Being an Ancient breed, Banescale are unable to wear apparel.

Trivia

• Dragons with wings and no front legs like Swiftwings are commonly called "wyverns."
• The right-facing and hatchling Swiftwing art is featured in Jessica Peffer (Undel)'s book, Dragon Evolution. They are under the "Hatchling to Adult" section.
• Before the lair update on February 7th, 2019, empty lair spaces were visible and took up space on the page. The empty spaces contained a Swiftwing silhouette.

  

• A hatchling Swiftwing graced the site's rating on the homepage until August 14th, 2016. The hatchling and rating itself were a callback to webcomic ratings in the early 2000's. Due to concerns that it could be mistaken for an ESRB rating, it was removed when the homepage was revamped.
• Swiftwings were mentioned in one of the fake advertisements during April Fool's Day 2018. It advertised a free Swiftwing breed change scroll to the 1,000,000th visitor.

• Swiftwings were mentioned again in one of Marva's coding updates during April Fool's Day 2025 as the message "ERROR: the variable $swiftwing is undefined."
